Retail giant made changes but could not overcome community opposition

"After meetings with
County Executive John R. Leopold and property owner
William Berkshire, a spokesman for the retail giant noted that despite
making several concessions, "it has become clear to us that there are
various views about a project of this size and scope at this specific
site and its relationship to the County's long-term development
profile."
"We
felt, therefore, that it is in the best interest of all to withdraw
our pending site development plan," Brian Hopper, a Wal-Mart official,
said in a statement."

Wal-Mart scraps Crofton plans
Community's opposition to store cited

After a year of unified opposition, Wal-Mart has decided to nix its
plans for a controversial new store in Crofton.
"We have asked the
county executive to withdraw our application," said Keith Morris, a
Wal-Mart spokesman."

Wal-Mart
is coming to Town
This page is set up for those
concerned about Wal-Mart Moving into the Crofton area. Wal-mart
currently has a grading permit submitted to Anne Arundel County .
The location for the Supercenter will be on RT.3 in the vicinity of the
Uncle Nickey's restaurant. The sites below have information on
Wal-Mart. They tend to be adverse to Wal-mart since this site
is for those opposed to a Crofton Wal-mart.
